Pick the microphone
In the Microphone menu, choose the input to test, or leave it on Default microphone. Device names appear once the browser has been given access.
Start recording and allow access
Click Start Recording and accept the browser's microphone permission prompt.
Speak and watch the waveform
Say a few words. If the live waveform moves with your voice, the microphone is picking up sound; a flat line means it is not.
Stop and listen back
Stop the recording and play it in the player to judge how it actually sounds — volume, clarity, background noise.

Keep the recording
If the take is good, keep it: export WAV or MP3, or open it in the Audio Studio.
It answers the first question: is the browser receiving sound from this microphone? A waveform that moves while you talk and stays flat while you are silent means the device, the cable and the permission are all working. Playing the take back then tells you how it sounds — whether it is too quiet, distorted, or full of room noise.
It is a visual and listening check. It does not display a decibel meter, measure latency or diagnose hardware faults. To see your recording's sample rate, channels and size, look at the tiles shown after you stop.
Check that you allowed microphone access when the browser asked; if you refused, re-enable it from the padlock or site-settings icon in the address bar. Then make sure the right device is selected in the Microphone menu, that the mic is not muted by a hardware switch or by your operating system's sound settings, and that no other application is holding it.
The test runs entirely in your browser. Your voice is captured and played back on your device; nothing is sent to a server.
